Boy's Basketball
One season, listed on the IHSA web site (www.ihsa.org), assured the Kings High School alumni that they would not be totally forgotten. The team of 1936-37
won the school's only District Championship. They achieved this with a team of freshmen, sophomores, &
juniors only, making it even more incredible. Unfortunately, the team record and coaches' name of this and other Kings
High School basketball teams are not available. Only the record of the 1938-39 team is known. If you have this
information, please contact us via e-mail.

Boys Baseball
According to the May of 1939 issue of the school magazine, "The Tatler" (see photo below), baseball was
definitely offered at Kings High School. The team of 1939, playing with only freshmen, sophomores, and juniors, finished
the season with a record of 3-6.
Music
This small little school of Kings offered a wide variety of opportunities to its students. In 1939, twenty-five
students at Kings School made up the school orchestra. The orchestra, led by Mr. Hubbell, competed
in the Meridian Conference Meet.
There was also a choir program offered at Kings. Miss Simpson led the students
on many appearances in the area including the performance of an operetta in March of 1939.
Other Activities Offered at Kings High School
The boys AND girls both had Athletic Association clubs which were run by the students. Each
sponsored events which brought in money to make the clubs successful.
"Dramatics" were offered at Kings as well. Two plays were put on for public viewing in
the 1938-39 school year.
Other events included the "Initiation Party" for the incoming freshmen. After the
initial proceedings, games were played by the students.
Three "Weiner Roasts" were held after three of the home baseball games. As the
Tatler states:
"Hotdogs, mustard, pickles, buns, marshmellows, and bananas helped satisfy the appetites of the boys."
The most important event of the year was the "Junior Banquet." A dinner was served and
later the attendees went to a play at the Times Theatre in Rockford.
